Mae G. Alberto is a senior counsel in the Los Angeles office of Manning & Kass, where she is a member of the firm’s Appellate Law/Strategy, Writs, and Appeals Team (SWAT). As a member of SWAT, Ms. Alberto provides specialized legal support to the firm’s various other legal teams. This involves developing law-and-motion strategies to effectively maximize the potential of prevailing on dispositive and non-dispositive motions, preparing complex motions and writs, assisting in devising litigation strategies, and performing trial support. Ms. Alberto’s areas of focus are in the defense of Governmental Entities and Religious Institutions. She also works on Premises Liability and Elder Abuse cases.
Prior to joining Manning & Kass, Ms. Alberto was in private practice, focused on appeals, writs, and law and motion practice. Ms. Alberto began and developed her expertise in writs and appeals not long after she passed the Bar, when she was given an opportunity to work as an associate on a capital habeas matter in federal court. Following Ms. Alberto’s first habeas case, she was appointed as co-counsel on two other capital habeas cases. Ms. Alberto’s experience in working on the habeas matters equipped her with essential knowledge of constitutional law and evidence, as well as skills in reviewing and digesting voluminous records; identifying, researching, analyzing complex legal issues; working with investigators and experts; and interviewing individuals from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. With this acquired expertise in dissecting and preparing a case for litigation and her skill in legal writing, Ms. Alberto was often hired to assist on complex litigation matters, including capital cases, RICO matters, and white collar offenses.
