Laraya M. Parnell is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Manning & Kass, where she is a member of the Strategy, Writs, and Appeals Team (SWAT). Ms. Parnell received her B.A. in Communications and Culture/Legal Communications from Howard University, and her Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Davis School of Law (King Hall).
During law school, Ms. Parnell served on the UC Davis Law Review as an articles editor, the Business Law Journal as a staff editor, and as research assistant to Dean Kevin Johnson.
After law school, Ms. Parnell worked as a research assistant for the Sacramento Superior Court's Juvenile Division before starting a position at the California Attorney General's Office as a Deputy Attorney General in the Civil Division. Before joining Manning & Kass, Ms. Parnell was a Deputy Attorney General in the Correctional Law Section, where she represented State agencies in civil litigation matters in state and federal court. As a Deputy Attorney General, Ms. Parnell handled several cases from inception to completion, including handling law and motion, civil discovery, settlement negotiations/mediations, and trial. Ms. Parnell has also handled appellate matters in both state and federal court.
