Brian T. Smith is a senior counsel in the Los Angeles office of Manning & Kass, where he practices on the Professional Liability Team.
Mr. Smith received a BA in government and Spanish, from the University of Notre Dame, in 2000. He obtained a JD from Southwestern Law School in 2004. During law school he was the recipient of a CALI Excellence for the Future Award®.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Smith worked in several boutique attorneys' offices. His experience in environmental law includes motion for appointment of receiver in contaminated property litigation; advising clients on the California Environmental Quality Act, the Health & Safety Code and Water Code relating to hazardous substances, regulatory matters before the Department of Toxic Substances Control and Regional Water Quality Control Board, and pollution liability insurance. He was also responsible for appeals based on securities fraud and Medicare fraud, and has represented plaintiffs and defendants in civil personal injury and other civil liability lawsuits.
Mr. Smith is the recipient of the Beverly Hills Bar Association's Lawrence J. Blake Award, which was featured in the Los Angeles Daily Journal. He served on the Barristers Board of Governors from 2007 to 2014, and was chair of the Bench Bar Committee from 2014 to 2015. He also served as chair of the Roxbury Park Monthly Legal Aid Clinic for four years.
Mr. Smith is admitted to the State Bar of California and U.S. District Court, Central District of California.
He enjoys swimming and hiking, and speaks Spanish fluently.
